Mornings have never been my favorite part of the day − anyone who knows me will likely agree with laughter. With that being said, I often miss out on breakfast. It’s no secret—starting your day off with a nutritious and well-balanced meal offers immediate rewards, like a boost in energy for work or exercise. However, eating breakfast also produces many long-term benefits, such as improved heart-health, weight loss, and lower cholesterol.

Lowers the risk of health complications. Overtime, your morning bowl of cereal can help lower your chances of developing diabetes, obesity, and other health-related problems. Individuals who do not eat breakfast increase their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by more than 20%, according to The Washington Times’, Dr. Nina Radcliff. 

Increases brainpower. Just like the gas in our cars, our brains need fuel to function as well. Eating breakfast jump=starts your body and brain by providing the necessary vitamins, nutrients, and minerals necessary to operate. Many studies have also shown that eating breakfast can lead to improved memory, concentration, learning, and creativity. 

Morning meals keep you heart-healthy. Skipping breakfast can greatly impact our heart and lead to increased health risks, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and a mix of unhealthy blood-fats. One Harvard study showed that men who skipped breakfast were 27% more likely to have a heart attach or die as a result of coronary heart disease. It also showed that the men who didn’t eat breakfast were more likely to be single, smoke, and consumer more alcohol; they were less likely to engage in physical activity as well.
