It seems like everywhere you look people are sporting fitness trackers. The fitness tracking movement is alive and well and offers many benefits, including tracking steps, calories, distance travelled, caloric intake, and even heart rate and sleep. Whether you are looking to lose weight or simply become more active, fitness trackers are leading the way to better health.

So, let’s chat and chew about some of the health benefits of using fitness trackers.

They keep you accountable. As someone who finds herself sitting around a majority of the workday—I once walked ONLY 32 steps in 6 hours—I personally use a fitness tracker to remind myself to get up a walk every 30 minutes. While it may seem silly, seeing how many steps I’ve taken during the day is enough to get me up and moving. On average, it is recommended that we take 10,000 steps per day to be in the healthy, active category of movement. As the old saying goes, seeing is believing, and wearable trackers can help you see that your fitness goals are being met.

They track your diet. We all know living a healthy lifestyle involves both regular activity and a healthy diet and trackers offer the ability to log your daily intake. You can enter your food choices, water intake, and assess the quality the daily choices you’re making.

They help with goal setting. Plain and simple, setting fitness goals will keep you focused. You can either choose to be fit, or you can actively engage with a fitness plan and live an active lifestyle. Whether you are trying to lose weight, or increase how much you’re exercising in a week, by tracking your goals you can begin to learn what it takes and how much you can achieve for any goal you set.

Tracking your sleep patterns. When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, getting a good night’s sleep is just as important as exercising and eating the right foods. The quality of your sleep can effect everything from your metabolism, cravings, energy, mood and safety. Many fitness trackers can track your sleep patterns, not only showing you how long you slept, but whether it was deep or light sleep throughout the night and how many times you woke up. Understanding your sleep patterns can help you make life changing habits, which will improve your overall performance.

While fitness trackers may not be suitable for everyone, they have a variety of benefits that can help keep you inspired and motivated to reach your goals.
